Plant location
Potunias can be grown in mixed containers, hanging baskets, window boxes, and ground beds. Potunias grow as a nice mounding ball of flowers that do not become overgrown or stringy in containers or beds.
Potunias should be grown in a sunny location receiving at least a half-day of sunlight. They should be planted in a prepared container or plant bed containing soil with good drainage and a pH of 5.5-6.0. Peat moss can be added to reduce soil pH.
Planting
When Potunias are transplanted; planting depth should be the same level as the original container. Plant spacing is usually 9-12 inches (23-30 cm) depending on the “look” one is trying to achieve. Three plants can be planted in a 10-12 inch (25-30 cm) hanging basket or container to achieve a balanced look.
Water and Fertilizer
Water your Potunias regularly to prevent severe wilting. Letting plants become too dry adversely affect plant performance. Conserve water by watering in the early morning and applying water directly to the root zone.
Potunias respond to fertilizer and should receive a liquid fertilizer application once a week for best garden performance. A slow release fertilizer can be used to supplement the weekly liquid application. Follow label recommendations for fertilizer applications.
Plant maintenance
Potunias do not require a lot of hand maintenance. Potunias continue to flower without the removal of old flowers. Plant shoots can be pinched if they become too leggy in the late season and the plants will show renewed growth and flowering.
